Audiologist

Annabel Anae has been an audiologist for more than 25 years. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Communication Disorders, with an emphasis in Audiology, from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. During her graduate studies, she was honored with the “Outstanding Graduate Student” award. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Audiology. Annabel recently returned home to Hawaii with her husband, Allen F. Anae, a general surgeon at Straub Hospital in Honolulu.

Annabel began her audiology career with the Hawaii Department of Health as the Central District Audiologist for the state’s “Hearing & Vision Program,” serving school-aged children from 3 to 21 years old. Within a few years, she advanced to Head Audiologist for the State of Hawaii, where she oversaw clinical services for children and contributed to the administrative support and justification for a statewide program staffed by seven audiologists and thirteen audiometric assistants. She is also a recipient of the national “Louis M. DiCarlo Award” from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation, recognizing outstanding clinical achievement in communication sciences and disorders.

In 1991, Annabel moved from Oahu to Los Angeles as her husband began his surgical residency. During this time, she joined Hearing Care Associates, a private clinical audiology group with more than ten offices in the Los Angeles area. She served as the managing audiologist for the Lakewood/Long Beach office, providing comprehensive audiological evaluations, ENG balance testing, ABR assessments, hearing aid evaluations and fittings, and securing service contracts with HMO and IPA organizations.

In 1996, Annabel founded her own private practice, Hearing Services West, which offered full audiological and hearing aid services from locations at the Los Alamitos Medical Center and Torrance’s Del Amo Medical Center. She worked closely with primary care physicians, ENT specialists, HMO and IPA groups, and various insurance carriers. After more than 16 years of ownership, she sold the practice in 2012.

One of Annabel’s proudest personal moments came in 2012 when she attended the London Olympic Games to watch her daughter, Tumua Anae, win a Gold Medal with the USA Women’s Water Polo team. Her greatest joys, however, remain her 32-year marriage, her two daughters—Jordan and Tumua—and her four (soon to be five!) grandchildren.

For the past two and a half years, Annabel has had the privilege of collaborating with many audiologists across Oahu. In 2015, she launched “Hawaii Mobile Audiology & Hearing Aids, LLC,” bringing high-quality hearing care directly to patients in the comfort of their homes. We Bring Hearing Home!
